{"id":520,"date":"2011-12-19T09:51:09","date_gmt":"2011-12-19T17:51:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.stevenreidbordmd.com\/?p=520"},"modified":"2011-12-19T10:09:56","modified_gmt":"2011-12-19T18:09:56","slug":"healthtap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blog.stevenreidbordmd.com\/?p=520","title":{"rendered":"healthTap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-521\" title=\"healthTaplogo\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.stevenreidbordmd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/healthTaplogo.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"275\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.stevenreidbordmd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/healthTaplogo.gif 225w, http:\/\/blog.stevenreidbordmd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/healthTaplogo-122x150.gif 122w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/>Last week I was invited to join an online service called <a title=\"healthTap\" href=\"http:\/\/www.healthtap.com\">healthTap<\/a>. \u00a0I signed up this weekend, and have been enjoying it so far. \u00a0It&#8217;s a free membership site where users ask brief medical\/health related questions. \u00a0The questions are then answered, also briefly, by one or more physicians in the &#8220;Medical Expert Network.&#8221; \u00a0Each doctor has a personalized page listing all questions he or she has answered so far, some additional related material, as well as practice and contact information. \u00a0There is no compensation for the doctors other than this publicity, including easy, built-in ways to spread one&#8217;s thoughts using social media such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. \u00a0There&#8217;s also a free mobile app to access the site.<\/p>\n<p>My early impression is that healthTap started with a <a title=\"Yahoo Answers\" href=\"http:\/\/answers.yahoo.com\/\">Yahoo Answers<\/a> model, then greatly improved it by vetting professional respondents. \u00a0Answers are a maximum of 400 characters (a short paragraph), so the information comes in small, bite-sized chunks, not long monographs. \u00a0The quality of the answers varies of course, but it&#8217;s generally pretty good given the space limitations.<\/p>\n<p>I just added a healthTap widget to the right-hand column of this page. \u00a0It shows some of the questions I&#8217;ve answered. \u00a0You can read each answer within the widget by clicking, and it also aims to sign you up on healthTap. \u00a0I see no harm in doing so. \u00a0You&#8217;ll have access to a well-meaning group of 6000 US-licensed physicians in all specialties, who volunteer to answer your health questions. \u00a0Note that there is no doctor-patient relationship formed this way: \u00a0Having questions answered online is no substitute for a real in-person consultation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week I was invited to join an online service called healthTap.
